Contrast in life and still life

First off let's welcome the latest member to join the family, the Nikon FM2n(silver one)! I got all 3 cams to pose together(FM10 my bro gave me and Joyce's Vivtar XV-1) cos they are all basically fully manual film cameras from the 80s. Damn, Ilyana is right. This is turning into a collection. And with my Lomo LC-A on the way from West Virginia and Winston sending out my Nikon F80 from New York this weekend.... I have a total of.....erm.. never mind. I'll do the counting next time.

Mentioned in the previous post on my love for BnW films........those were 120 format exposures. Not very comfortable with square-shaped composition. Here are the more regular 135 format exposures. Films just gave that much more depth. Just love it.

Kodak Tri-X 400, my current fav(partly also bcos they are the cheapest), are used for these "walk around" shots. Camera used is my mom's F50 (an impulse buy like 13 yrs ago but only used once when she visited the my grandfather's Khek village in China), which is now assimilated into my collective too.... heheheh....Soon to be replaced by the en route F80. Lack of full frame (FX) lenses so used a DX Tokina 11-16mm f2.8 for the wide angle shots. It' still compatible if it is zoomed to 15mm(22.5mm FX equil) but it still leaves a slight vignette(dark) to the corner of the pics.

Bukit Larangan, Govt Hill, Forbidden Hill, Fort Canning, wateva. It's nice to see some of the past are still preserved over there with some Armenian and British architecture and structures still evident in the area. Pictured are some tombstones converted into a wall section. From past sketches, most of the hill and the govt quarters can be clearly seen from where Collyer Quay now stands if I'm not wrong. But that was a time before the reclamations and sky scrapers. There's some distortion at the edges of the pic which is normal for wide angle lenses and also blurness due to the aperture used wide open (it was abit dark then) but somehow I feel they do positively add to the aesthetic quality of the pic.

Always had a thing for raintrees since primary sch. They are often overlooked cos they are all over the place in Singapore. But have you stopped for a moment and observed how each of them have their own unique "signature" of branches spreading out into the eventual shape of the crown? Somehow bird nest ferns loves raintrees and can be found in abundance on them. This somehow adds more details to the outline when juxtaposed against a flat background like the sky. And ONLY B&W does justice to such a combination....heheh......but that's my own opinion.

This one is taken at my downstairs and among my fav in this roll. Was riding home one day and happened to have the cam with me. Stopped by the road side and snapped. Always have admired the raintrees lining along Depot Road ever since I moved here 2-3 yrs ago. It's even more scenic on sunny mornings when the sun rays shine through the cracks of the canopy. There are few pleasures in life that can compare riding a bike leisurely through such a road on a cool and bright morning. The only other road that can replicate such a feeling is the stretch of Thomson road just outside the 70s race course. But I wouldn't wanna wake up so early and travel so far when one is just laterally 'at ur doorsteps'.

Another impatient "lomo" type of effort at trying to waste the film away so that I can finish the roll. Taken at lift lobby during sunset.

Sick of all the monotony? How about this? Taken from my window(where else?*yawn*) one evening when I just came back from work. One part of Singapore was filled with dark clouds while the other is damn sunny. An uncommon combination that allowed this rainbow to standout from the deep greyish storm clouds and the buildings below are all bathed in warm sunset lighting.

Yesterday's trip to CGH to play badminton was full of misadventure. So many cases of coincidental setbacks together in one evening. Murphy's law was well and alive. At first was damn pek chek but at least it was one hell of a memory with the classmates. Hah.
Today woke so bloody early in the morning so that Edmund can drive me back to CGH to retrieve my company's lorry back. Only consolation: the sunrise was spectacular.

Split into our soc psycho project groups today. There was definitely some drama in the process but non that will be convenient to mention here in a public blog.
